As it happens every year, Yahoo revealed the top ten most
popular searches on their portal. Much to everyone’s surprise, searches related
to Britney Spears outdid the ones related to the president-elect, Barack Obama,
which came in the third position, after the famous pop singer and World
Wrestling Entertainment.
The pop-culture isn’t represented only by Britney Spears. In
the top ten there were also Miley Cyrus (No. 4), Jessica Alba (No. 6), Lindsey
Lohan (No.7) and Angelina Jolie (No. 9).
Despite the singer’s ups and downs, “Britney Spears” was the
most popular searched term in the last 7 years. And she made it in the first
place for a fourth year in a row.
Senior Editor of Yahoo Buzz, Vera Chan, explains that all
the troubles that Britney had in her personal life, the loss of her children's
custody which went to her ex-husband Kevin Federline, the problems she had with
the law, paparazzi never giving up and, eventually, the work for her latest
album and her fight to recover brought her an increasing popularity.
"She was number one last year for all the wrong
reasons, and this year for all the right reasons,” Chan said. She told the BBC that
people usually like redemption tales and that Britney couldn't have had such
troubles and stories in her life and at the same time have nobody interested in
them.
Britney’s “redemption” is confirmed by the many prizes she
won lately. She won three awards at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, another
two at the MTV Europe Music Awards and was voted as Best International Pop Star
at the Bambi Awards in Germany.
She also appeared last night on ITV1's X Factor. Spears delivered the show’s
highest audience viewing numbers at 12.6 million. The singer has been in a mini
tour across Europe, to promote her new album,
“Circus.”
