Many things can be said about Britney Spears; that she is afraid of creating a controversy is not one of them hence the pop singer’s provocative album art for “Blackout.”
Britney Spears’ comeback album finally makes its entrance today. Oct. 30 and a quiet one it surely will not be. The pop singer has already attracted attention, specifically from the president of civil rights organization The Catholic League, Bill Donohue.
“This is all the puzzle pieces coming together. This girl is crashing,” Donohue told the New York Daily News. “She's not even allowed to bring up her own kids because she's not responsible enough. Now we see she can't even entertain.”
What Donohue is so upset about are the photos adorning Britney’s Jive Records album, her first studio effort in several years. The singer wears little clothing as she sits on a priest’s lap or leans against a church confessional.
Donohue also called the snapshots a “bottom of the barrel” stunt, the Daily News reports.
While Britney Spears’ personal life has gone to bits over the past several months, she seems to be holding on tight to her musical career. Her last studio album, “In the Zone,” was released in 2003 and spawned the number one hits “Me Against the Music,” featuring Madonna, “Toxic” and “Everytime.”
The following year she married back-up dancer Kevin Federline and took a lengthy career break, during which time she gave birth to sons Sean Preston and Jayden James. Britney and Federline were officially divorced on July 30, 2007.
The custody feud that ensued between the former spouses has been tabloid fodder on a daily basis for the past several months. Britney has surprisingly still managed to record a comeback album.
Earlier this month, Billboard.com revealed the track list for “Blackout,” as confirmed by the singer. The 12-track set starts off with “Gimme More,” which has been doing quite well on pop charts.
“Gimme More” is followed by “Piece of Me,” “Radar,” “Break the Ice,” “Heaven on Earth,” “Get Naked (I Got a Plan),” “Freakshow,” “Toy Soldier,” “Hot As Ice,” “Ooh Ooh Baby,” “Perfect Lover” and “Why Should I Be Sad.”
Billboard.com also reported that producers Bloodshy & Avant, Kara DioGuardi and Nate “Danjahandz” Hills collaborated on various tracks. Pharrell Williams reportedly wrote, co-produced and sings backup on closer “Why Should I Be Sad.”
“Blackout” was initially scheduled for a Nov. 13 release but the plan changed because of leaks of its songs.
