Britney Spears’ problems seem to multiply at an alarming speed, the latest of these being a rumored resignation from her divorce lawyer.
TMZ.com reports that Britney’s lawyer, the famed Laura Wasser, is planning to resign and let the pop singer employ another attorney for her ongoing custody feud with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
According to the gossip website, Laura Wasser has put Britney in touch with other lawyers that could help her fight Federline in court and obtain custody of their two sons.
TMZ credits this information to “sources connected to the case.” The site adds that Britney was reportedly not pleased with any of the choices presented to her and insisted that Wasser not leave.
The singer has probably put a lot of hope in Wasser’s capacity to help her get her boys, Sean Preston, who is almost 2, and Jayden James, who is almost 1.
These past several days, former and current members of the singer’s entourage were subpoenaed by Federline’s legal team. They will testify in court as to Britney’s parenting skills and general lifestyle.
Former personal assistant Shannon Funk, current personal assistant Alli Sims, former bodyguard and driver Daimon Shippen have all been served deposition subpoenas by Mark Vincent Kaplan, Kevin Federline’s lawyer.
The divorce between the pop icon and the former backup dancer/failed rapper, was finalized in late July. They share joint legal and physical custody of their two sons.
The following week after the divorce, Federline, 29, filed for primary physical custody of the children. His lawyer has even suggested that the boys would be better off with their father, safe from “unnecessary risks.”
The “risks” he was referring to are probably related to Britney’s alleged drinking and partying these past few months.
The two former spouses’ lawyers will be on court on Sept. 14, when Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon has set up a hearing to decide whether the media will have access to paperwork pertaining to Brit and Federline’s custody case.
Both parties have asked that the details of their custody case remain permanently sealed, so as to protect the boys.
