Some inventive British thieves, probably frustrated
for not being able to run Crysis or Unreal Tournament 2007, have broken
into the Manchester store of American retailer GameStop, taking with
them "over 100 gaming systems", according to the local Police.
The
perpetrators made a hole into the wall that separates GameStop's store
from another shop (which is now abandoned) and left with the valuable
gaming rigs. The odd thing is that the Police believes the thugs were
actually after PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, but eventually
"settled" for the PCs. "Over 100 gaming systems that were removed from the office valued at approximately $30,000," said Sgt. Maureen Tessier, of the Manchester Police Dept.
There
is little chance for the Police to catch the thieves, considering that
no surveillance cameras were installed at the site and that few clues
were gathered to help the investigation. As a result of this situation,
the Manchester Police made an appeal to the public to offer any details
that might be useful.
Anyway, GameStop should call themselves fortunate compared to what
happened to Microsoft in Britain. A UK deposit where Xbox 360 consoles
were stored got robbed a bit more than a year ago,
and consoles worth more than $1.9 million were stolen. Only two days
after this incident, the Police reported another massive Xbox 360
theft, although this time it involved the highjacking of a truck filled
with X60s worth more than $500,000.
