The “Father Figure” pop star has to hire a private driver,
because he was banned from driving for two years. He also was sentenced to 100
hours community service after he admitted in court to driving while unfit due
to "tiredness and prescribed drugs."
Although he is a popular and worldwide successful singer,
George Michael admitted he has been addicted to (prescription) drugs and
alcohol. He even said that, in his case, marijuana is less harmful than
alcohol. The singer blamed all this mess from his private life to his mother’s
death, which happened about ten years ago.
George Michael was arrested in London in October 2, 2006
year after being found slumped at the steering wheel of his car.
"I was ashamed I had done something really wrong in
putting other people at risk," Michael told Brent Magistrate's Court in
north London
during the proceedings.
Prosecutors said the star had been found to have a
"cocktail of drugs" in his system, as well as a "therapeutic
quantity" of an anti- depressant when he was stopped by police.
Michael - real name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou - is due to
give the first concert tomorrow at the nearby 90,000-seater Wembley stadium,
the first of two nights there as part of his 25 Live European tour.
"I would simply ask you to understand that the media
coverage of this case has been farcical, concentrating almost entirely on the
prosecution's allegations," he said.
"I'm glad to put this behind me," he added.
"Now I'm off to do the biggest show of my life."
