Princes William and Harry are pleading with a British TV channel not to show images of their mother, Princess Diana, at the time of her death in 1997.
Channel 4 plans to air a documentary on Wednesday night titled “Diana: The Witnesses In The Tunnel,” which will include never before seen images, such as Princess Diana receiving oxygen from a French doctor.
Clarence House, the London home of Prince Charles and his two sons, said the princes believed using the images would show “gross disrespect” to their mother's memory.
William and Harry were 15 and 12, respectively, when their mother died in a car crash in Paris almost 10 years ago. Diana’s companion Dodi Al-Fayed and the driver of the Mercedes also lost their lives in the accident.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 said the station had taken into consideration both the princes’ plea and the public interest and had decided to air the documentary, along with the controversial images.
William and Harry are planning a memorial concert for Princess Diana on July 1, the 10th anniversary of her death. Among the many artists scheduled to perform at Wembley Stadium in honor of the late Diana, are: Andrew Lloyd Webber, Luciano Pavarotti, The Feeling, Bryan Ferry, Duran Duran, Elton John and Nelly Furtado.
The money from the concert will go to charities such as Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund and Centrepoint.
