Bristol Palin’s Future Mother-in-Law Arrested, Gets Out on Bail

Alaskan authorities have arrested Sherry L. Johnston, the mother of 18-year-old Levi Johnston  (who is Bristol Palin’s boyfriend) on six drug charges. Sarah Palin had previously announced in September that her daughter Bristol, also age 18, was pregnant with Johnston’s child, with the baby being due today. The young couple intend to get married next summer.

According to Associated Press, spokeswoman Megan Peters issued a news release Friday, saying that a strong prescription painkiller called OxyContin was connected to the present troubles of Levi Johnston’s mother, who is aged 42. The arrest was made by Alaskan State Troopers after they looked in a Wasilla home as consequence of a search warrant. The authorities didin’t specify which drugs were found.

Spokeswoman Peters also said that the charges didn’t refer to any one else and that no more details on the matter could be made public at the time because the investigation was in full swing. As for Sherry Johnston, she got out from the Palmer jail on a $5,000 bail. It looks like no immediate arraignment is to follow.

Sarah Palin, who was the Republican candidate for the position of vice-president, will not come forward with official comments. According to her representative, “this is not a state government matter.”

Besides her daughter Bristol, Palin has four other children: two sons, Track and Trig, and two daughters, Willow and Piper. Track is the oldest, having been born in 1989; he enlisted in the U.S. Army last year and his infantry unit deployed to Iraq in September 2008. The youngest child is Trig, born in 2008.
