Brinkley – Cook Soap Opera Continues With ‘20/20’ Interview

Peter Cook may have lost in court against supermodel Christie Brinkley, but it seems that to him that was just a battle. The war isn’t over and Cook continues the soap opera by laying out the case in an interview to Barbara Walters that will air Friday at 10 p.m. on ABC's "20/20.

Cook, 49, said that he cheated on his ex-, supermodel wife Christie Brinkley, 54, mainly because she didn’t provide him with the emotional support he needed in a relationship. In his first TV interview, Cook said that, by the time he was involved in an extramarital relationship with then 18-year-old Diana Bianchi, he and his wife were more like brother and sister.

He labeled his affair as an effort to seek "a connection I could not find in my own marriage.”

“I think we were both feeling more like we were living with a brother and sister than a life partner."

"I wanted a little acknowledgment, a little attention, a little 'thank you' every now and then for my efforts, for the amount of time I took to care for her and my family, for the wealth I was building," Cook told Walters.

The two tied the knot in 1996, but after ten years broke up after Cook’s affair Bianchi surfaced. Cook paid off Bianchi $300,000 to keep quiet, but she testified in court anyway.
The marriage ended in mid-July when the two reached an out-of-court settlement under which Brinkley gave Cook $2.1 million. She retained several properties in the Hamptons and the custody of the two children. Cook was Brinkley’s fourth husband.

The main reason why Cook decided to give the revealing interview to Walters is that he wanted change the bad image he was painted with during the case.

"My hope is that the world will see that I'm not the scumbag pervert that I've been painted to be," he told Walters.

As it happens, Cook may have violated a court order which forbids the two ex-spouses to publicly speak about the trial after the settlement.

"It is shocking that Mr. Cook, after having his day in court, would continue this firestorm created by his bizarre behavior by violating an agreement and court order that prohibits either party from discussing their marriage or divorce in any public way," Brinkley's lawyer, Robert Stephan Cohen.
