Perhaps it’s no surprise that Bridget Moynahan’s newborn son will not bear his daddy’s last name, but his mother’s.
Actress Bridget Moynahan’s rep released a statement announcing the name that Bridget has picked for her bundle of joy: John Edward Thomas Moynahan. The baby will have dad John Brady’s first and middle names, but not his last.
While the release has no explanation for this, it does add that Bridget was “very pleased” to have her former boyfriend by her side when she gave birth to little John.
Bridget is “thankful for a healthy baby and is excited about being a mother,” the statement says, adding she “was very pleased that the father, Tom Brady, was able to be there for the birth and spend a few days with their new child.”
Bridget, 37, and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, 30, ended their two-year relationship in late 2006. In February 2007, Bridget confirmed that she was pregnant with Tom’s baby who, by this time, had entered another relationship with Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
The QB flew to the West Coast last week, where his former girlfriend was in hospital. He had previously said he wished to be by Bridget’s side when she gave birth and added that it depended on coach Bill Belichick to figure out the schedule.
One-week-old John is the first child for both actress and athlete.
Bridget Moynahan is best known for her roles in “I, Robot,” alongside Will Smith, and “The Recruit,” with Al Pacino and Colin Farrel. Fans of HBO series “Sex and the City” know her as Mr. Big’s wife. She starred until recently on the ABC series “Six Degrees.”
She next appears in a comedy titled “Noise,” starring Tim Robbins and William Hurt.
Tom Brady, a three-time Super Bowl champion, expressed happiness at becoming a father when Bridget made her pregnancy public.
