An outdoor wedding in rural Arkansas turned deadly on Saturday as a man shot the bride, groom and two other people. The shooter was chased by the guests and eventually arrested, a sheriff's official said Sunday.
The wedding ceremony was near the end when the shooter approached the newly wed and opened fire with a 9 mm pistol, Pope County sheriff's Lt. Aaron DuVall said.
The wedding was organized along Piney Creek north of Dover, 64 miles northwest of Little Rock, and about 50 people attended the ceremony.
Police said the shooter was not associated with the wedding at all, which makes the case stranger.
"No one knew him," said DuVall.
Police investigators identified the shooter as Patrick Paul Duvall from Pope County. The 29-year-old was chased by the guests after he fled the scene in a stolen truck and finally caught him in a Russellville Burger King parking lot, said the sheriff's lieutenant, who has the same name as the suspect by coincidence.
The spouses are still in Saint Mary's Hospital in Russellville receiving treatment. Police wouldn’t release the identities of the other two victims, but said one of them was released from hospital after being treated.
The shooter will reportedly remain in the Pope County jail until a bond hearing Wednesday morning. Duvall will be charged with four felony counts of first-degree battery and a felony charge of vehicle theft after the shooting.
