New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss connected for two touchdown plays to keep the team undefeated with a 34-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
This game was the third in which Brady, who's led the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles, has thrown two TD passes to Moss. Moss made it to the Pro Bowl on five occasions and was brought in the off-season from the Oakland Raiders. He is at his seven scoring catch in the Patriots’ great 4-0 season start.
“It's a pretty good connection,” Brady said in an interview with ESPN at Paul Brown Stadium after yesterday's game. “He adds a lot to this offense and hopefully it continues to open things up for other players.”
Assisted by a good morale and great form, the Patriots have managed to beat each of their first four opponents by a margin exceeding 20 points, a feat that didn’t occur in the National Football League since 1925.
The Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts are the only other teams that started the season with four wins, while the Bengals are 1-3.
The Patriots earned a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 31-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski and a one-yard touchdown pass to linebacker Mike Vrabel via Brady.
Vrabel has seven career touchdown catches
The Benglas fought back and closed in on the Patriots as Carson Palmer threw a one-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh, but the Brady – Moss duo connected again for a seven-yard touchdown play to increase New England’s lead to 17-7 with 4:11 left in the first half.
Then Sammy Morris, who replaced the hurt Laurence Maroney, stepped up for his team in the third quarter to put New England 24-7 in front. Brady threw another scoring pass to Moss - a 14-yard one - with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter to secure push the team’s winning streak to four in a row. .
Brady completed 25-of-32 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns, Stephen Gostkowski made field goals of 31 and 36 yards, while Moss caught nine passes for 102 yards. Morris rushed for 117 yards on 21 carries for the Patriots, who will play Cleveland in their next game before a trip to play the Cowboys on Oct. 14.
