Jennifer Aniston’s latest movie, „Marley and Me” pulled in the most money in its first day since it had been released. The story about a young family and their hard to control dog together with Brad Pitt’s „The Curios Case of Benjamin Button” were winners at the box office.
Yet, „Marley and Me” was the leader as it earned $14.8 million in its first release day. The movie is about John (Owen Wilson) and Jenny (Jennifer Aniston) who adopt Marley, a yellow Labrador Golden Retriever, as to get accustomed to the parenting style. Yet, the dog proves to be too active and to demand too much things from them during his races throughout the house and the mess he creates. As time passes by, children begin to appear in their family, but in the end, it proves that it didn’t matter how rambunctious Marley is because he has reached to be an indispensable part of the family. This was the highest one-day total ever for a film which has opened on Christmas day.
„The Curios Case of Benjamin Button” tells the story of a romance between a man who gets older in reverse and a woman (Cate Blanchett) and set a record on its own too. The movie was second-highest Christmas opening of all-time with $11.8 million.
As Variety reported, both movies overreached the expectations with 50%. In addition, there were other two movies which earned strong positions on Christmas day. „Bedtime Stories” starring Adam Sandler, tells the story of a man whose bedtime stories told to his nephews turn into reality. The movie earned $10.5 million.
Tom Cruise’s „Valkyrie” grossed $8.5 million and reached No. 4, but it had also won mixed reviews. Yet, „Sprit” starring Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johnason was the only underperformerm earning only $4 million on its release day.
