Brad Pitt’s hard work has been rewarded, as the actor’s
foundation has already brought light to the lives of six families. The
44-year-old “Burn After Reading” star has visited the Lower 9th Ward
neighborhood in New Orleans
in order to examine the first six houses built by his Make It Right foundation
after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the homes of hundreds of people.
The charity was launched by Brad Pitt approximately a year
ago and the project includes the construction of 150 energy-efficient
residences in an area which was devastated by the hurricane in 2005.
While some families are preparing to move in the
already-finished six homes, other people are still waiting for their houses to
be put up. Brad Pitt’s happiness, however, is shaded by the fact that some
families will have to wait for a long time until their homes are ready. “The
frustration is that we have a long way to go,” the actor explained.
While six homes have already been raised and the
construction of two more residences is still in progress, the building of 14
edifices is scheduled to begin as soon as 2009.
Brad Pitt said that the neighborhood, which used to be one
of New Orleans’ poorest sections, should be one
of the largest “green” areas in the United States.
Brad Pitt and his partner, actress Angelina Jolie, attended
on Monday a special screening of the actor’s latest movie, “The Curious Case of
Benjamin Button.”
The beautiful couple stole the spotlight, as it always does,
and Brad Pitt described the film, which was filmed in New Orleans, as a “love letter” to the city.
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is scheduled to be
released on December 25.
