Boy George’s Trial Date Fixed for February

Boy George’s trial date for allegedly imprisoning a male escort has been set for February 2008.

The ex-Culture singer, on his real name George O’Dowd, presented at the Thames Magistrates Court this morning, but he hardly said anything except his name.

The 46-year-old singer was charged after a Norwegian man, named Auden Karlsen claimed he was chained and threatened at the singer’s home in Ravey Street, Hackney, east London on April 28.

Karlsen, who denies working as a male escort, sustained that he went to George’s home as a photo model and he was held at the property against his will.

“I was convinced I was going to die. George handcuffed me to a hook by the bed as they held me down,” he said.

Karlsen met the singer on the website Gaydar and agreed to go to his place for a payment of 400 pounds.

George’s brother has commented about the allegations as being “rubbish.” George denied the allegations when they became public in April. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.

George will stand before a jury on February 25 at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The popstar is currently on conditional bail until the case goes to court.

George is not at his conflict with the police. Last year, George was sentenced to sweep the streets of New York for “wasting police time” after he falsely reported a burglary at his lower Manhattan apartment.
