Boy George Thanks Street Workers With Special Concert

It seems not all stars are so vain and full of themselves, some are actually not afraid to show some gratitude or emotion from time to time.

This is the case with Boy George, whose good intentions pleasantly surprised everybody when he announced he planned to thank New York City’s sanitation workers for being so nice to him while he had to sweep the streets with them as part of community service. And what could be a better way to thank someone when you’re a famous singer than through a concert?

George said he would sing some of his most popular hits, during a private concert, for the Department of Sanitation’s Family Day on Aug. 17.

"The people I worked alongside showed great kindness to me at a very difficult time, and I wanted to thank them all in a way that would show my appreciation," he said, according to the Associated Press.

The singer had to work for the above mentioned department after pleading guilty to falsely alarming the police about a burglary at his home in lower Manhattan two years ago. Unfortunately for him, when they arrived at his place, the police officers found some cocaine instead of a thief…

Shortly after this, the former Culture Club frontman could be photographed by paparazzi dressed in an orange vest and dark Capri pants, as he was hauling trash.

Michael A. Bimonte, a first deputy commissioner with the sanitation department, praised Boy George’s intentions, saying the department welcomed the singer’s “generous offer to entertain those who have made our city the cleanest it has been in more than 30 years.”

The British singer, born under the name of George O’Dowd, has gained fame while he was part of the new romantic pop band Culture Club. The group was very successful in the 80s, due to songs such as “Karma Chameleon” or “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?”

Boy George, who is turning 47 in a couple of days, will launch a North American tour in Aspen, Colo., on July 10.
