Because he is facing a November trial in London, singer and DJ Boy George has been denied entry to the United States. Thus, the former Culture Club frontman will apparently miss his scheduled North American tour which was slated to kick off July 11 at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, and wrap August 23 at the House of Blues in Dallas.
The tour was to include a private concert for his brief colleagues at the New York Department of Sanitation. George said he would sing some of his most popular hits, during a private concert, for the Department of Sanitation’s Family Day on Aug. 17, but that is not going to happen, apparently.
The singer had to work for the above mentioned department after pleading guilty to falsely alarming the police about a burglary at his home in lower Manhattan two years ago. Unfortunately for him, when they arrived at his place, the police officers found some cocaine instead of an actual thief.
The London case is the result of false imprisonment charge. Boy George was arrested last year after a 28-year-old male escort from Norway accused him of false imprisonment by chaining him to a wall and assaulting him at his London home. The singer denied the allegations at the time and was released on bail.
His management’s statement emphasized that George has been given “unconditional bail by the police and the courts in London thereby permitting him to travel anywhere in the world.”
The British singer, born under the name of George O’Dowd, has gained fame while he was part of the new romantic pop band Culture Club. The group was very successful in the 80s, due to songs such as “Karma Chameleon” or “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?”
