Boxee, the freeware cross-platform media center software, and Hulu seem to be playing cat an mouse over the latter’s content. Less than a day after Boxee made some updates to access Hulu content again, Hulu again blocked it on Boxee.
Dave Mathews, an adviser to the company, expressed his frustration with the situation between Boxee and Hulu, a joint partnership between NBC Universal and News Corp.
"These guys are so shortsighted. It's an RSS reader. What our open-source community will do is just make the Boxee browser look at the Firefox browser," said Mathews, adding that Hulu is blocking Boxee’s browser.
Boxee, the company that offers online video on a television, reincorporated Hulu’ content on its media software via a RSS feed. This happened about two weeks after Hulu decided to withdraw its content from Boxee due to pressure from content providers.
Now, it was time for episode 2, in which Boxee’s update returned Hulu stream without the latter’s consent. Hulu, of course, blocked the content again on Boxee. Now the ball is in Boxee’s court again. Wonder what’s gonna happen in episode three of the Boxee-Hulu soap opera.
In a “TO OUR USERS” statement posted on its blog Friday afternoon, Boxee promised its users that it will do everything in its power to provide them with access to all the content possible on the Internet.
“While some of the best things in life are free, sometimes you have to work hard to get them," the post read.
