Veteran rock band Bon Jovi plans to play a free concert in Central Park in less than two weeks, as a triumphant conclusion to their soon-to-end “Lost Highway” tour, frontman Jon Bon Jovi said Monday.
The “All-Star Concert in Central Park” will take place July 12, beginning at 8 p.m., on Central Park’s Great Lawn. While the show is free, tickets will be distributed in order to have discipline and order.
No more than 60,000 tickets shall be given, so as to maintain the integrity of the lawn’s grass, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday during a news conference, as quoted by Reuters.
The concert, organized in conjunction with the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, set for July 15 at Yankee Stadium, is a dream come true for Bon Jovi, as its lead singer confessed during the same news conference.
Jon Bon Jovi called the Lost Highway Tour “the most successful tour in the world this year” and said a free concert “for anyone in New York” was the best way to end the tour.
“I just traveled the world again, and New York is still the greatest city in the world,” the musician said enthusiastically.
The Lost Highway Tour ends July 14-15 with two arena shows at Madison Square Garden. Over the past year, band members Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Rico Torres and David Bryan have traveled across the world, with concerts in the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Europe.
Tickets will be distributed to those interested beginning Wednesday, July 2, at baseball parks and events throughout New York City (Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, Shea Stadium in Queens, KeySpan Park in Brooklyn, and at the home of the Staten Island Yankees).
Tickets also will be available in Manhattan at DHL All-Star FanFest at the Jacob K. Javits Center on Friday, July 11. MLB.com also will be conducting a random drawing for tickets.
