At least two civilians have perished and two other were wounded after a bomb exploded in central Baghdad on Wednesday, CNN informed quoting an Interior Ministry official.
The bomb was detonated around 8 a.m. (12 a.m. ET) near the Green Zone, the seat of U.S. military and U.S. diplomatic agencies. The Iraqi government and parliament are also located in that area.
The target of the explosion was a U.S. military convoy, but it missed it and led to the killing of passing-by civilians. The coalition forces were attacked again with an improvised explosive at the entrance of the Green Zone, also known as the International Zone.
The attack determined the military officials to close two entry control points as a safety measure, but they reopened them since then.
Another bomb exploded in northeastern Baghdad according to Reuters. The car bomb was targeting a police patrol, but, as in the above mentioned case, it led to the death of innocent civilians. One civilian was killed and six other, including three policemen, were wounded in the blast, an Interior Ministry official said.
In Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, a U.S. soldier was shot dead while operating in the city, the U.S. military said.
There were also casualties in the Diyala province northeast of Baghdad on Tuesday. According to U.S. military, two U.S. soldiers were killed and four wounded in an explosion.
