“Raising the Bar” begins Monday on TNT and it is Steven
Bochco’s new judicial drama and it is in fact a story about a group of young
public defenders, their fellow prosecutors who are just as young and one who
clerks for a judge..
They battle in courtrooms all day long and afterwards they
gather in order to have a couple of drinks. Bochco is generally known for his
appetite for legal issues and the lives of the ones who strive to make a better
world such as "NYPD Blue or" "L.A. Law."
Tonight’s pilot is said to be a pleasing one but in a very
obvious way that might lead to a viewers’ reluctance towards watching the show
in the future. But overall it appears to be worth watching since it’s been a
while since U.S.
viewers last entertained themselves on
account of such a subject.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar who also played detective John Clark Jr.
in “NYPD Blue,” also stars in this show. In the series, Gosselaar plays scrappy
public defender Jerry Kellerman.
“It’s an exhilarating role in many ways. Jerry
feels so much for his clients and, in doing the show, I got wrapped up in how
he feels for his clients. I sometimes take it personally, the absurdity of what
his clients go through. I see Jerry’s passion for his clients. It’s tough to
play him,” the actor explained.
Jane Kaczmarek plays Judge Trudy Kessler, a powerful and
witty justice defender. Jerry calls her “a petty, spiteful tyrant.”
All in all the show is quite comforting and it’s easy to
digest, with decent criminals and passionate ethical defenders.
