The blogger accused of leaking the album “Chinese Democracy," of the Guns N' Roses band, will plead guilty. His name is Kevin Cogill and he is expected to be present at a hearing before a federal court in Los Angeles next month. Craig Missakian, assistant US attorney, told the media that Cogill has agreed to enter a guilty plea at the December 8 appointment. The blogger is facing charges of copyright infringement, after he uploaded nine songs from the band’s long-awaited comeback. Even if people were sure he will face five years in prison, he will actually face a maximum of one year, if convicted.
The “Chinese Democracy” album, of Guns N’ Roses, is now scheduled for release on November the 24th. The nine songs that the hacker has supposedly uploaded are: "Chinese Democracy", "Better", "The Blues", "Madagascar", "There Was A Time", "IRS", "Rhiad & The Bedouins", "Prostitute" and "If the World". The songs were posted by Cogill in June, on his Web site, Antiquiet.com, and then quickly taken down. Two months later, in August, Cogill was arrested at his home in Los Angeles and released on bail. At the time of the arrest, the policemen said he faced three years in prison. The authorities haven’t found out yet how Kevin, who has no known direct connection to the band, obtained the songs.
Missakian, the assistant attorney, declined to discuss details of the plea deal that Cogill reached with federal prosecutors. The rock band is now offering fans the chance to show their top skills in an air guitar competition, and the ones who want to enter should upload their performance to the band’s YouTube channel. The winner will hear "Chinese Democracy" at a private “rock party” before its official release. The album, from which the blogger uploaded the songs, is the first original material from the group since 1991’s double release “Use Your Illusion” I and II.
