Last night was the official release of word of Warcraft’s third installment, Wrath of The Lich King. As it was expected, video stores held special parties and many fans joined, buying their copy and celebrating the many new quests and undead that will invade their computers. World of Warcraft is the world’s most played MMORPG and has stirred up many contradicting opinions among people of all ages. Some say that the game is too addictive and that it can transform normal people to social rejects as the game, basically, traps them in front of their computers. Others praise the game’s ability to create cultural links between people of different cultures and nationalities. The game is played all around the world and it is just amazing to see so many people doing anything together, fighting for a common goal, even if this means killing a virtual creature that spits fire and has protective, magical armor.
The Wrath Of The Lich King was a very important event in the gaming world and last night’s events showed that. In san Francisco there have been reports of WoW fans disturbing the peace and the police was asked to intervene and in the UK massive lines in front of video stores were created. In London approximately 2,000 people lined up for a copy of the game autographed by Paul Sams and associate producer Lee Sparks.
It was also reported that credit card reader crashes were reported all over the US and most blame them on the mass of WoW players eager to get their hands on the copy of the latest WoW game.
