BlizzCon: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Unveiled

Three years after its initial launch, World of Warcraft gets a new expansion, Blizzard revelaed at its annual conference BlizzCon.

Entitled World of Warcraft:Wrath of the Lich King, this new expansion will open the forbidding wasteland of Northrend to exploration by the hardiest adventurers, which means players of level 68 and above.

The storyline of this second expansion will focus on the return of Arthas Menethil, a.k.a. the Lich King, who now broods atop the Frozen Throne deep in Icecrown Citadel, and is one of the most powerful beings in all of Azeroth.

In Wrath of the Lich King, the forces of the Alliance and the Horde will venture into battle against the Scourge amid Northrend’s howling winds and fields of jagged ice.

Blizzard announced also the new feature that will be available in the expansion: Death Knight Hero Class, Increased Level Cap, siege weapons and destructible buildings and new character customization.

“This expansion will add some of the most infamous characters and settings from the Warcraft universe to World of Warcraft,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “In addition to new story content, Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a number of features specifically requested by players over the past couple of years. We’re looking forward to sharing further details with everyone as development progresses.”

Also, at BlizzCon, the participants will be able to get their hand on the early version of StarCraft II, ehich offers single-player skirmishes as well as multiplayer battles on six different maps.

Blizzard unveiled new details about the Terran race which features new units such as the Banshee aircraft, the Cobra hover tank, and the fearsome Thor, a massive assault mech designed for attacking enemy bases. Blizzard also emphasized the Terrans’ adaptability, upgradeable structures, and other unique gameplay mechanics designed for strategic flexibility.
