Blast near Islamabad Danish Embassy Kills 8, Injures 12

A bomb exploded outside the Danish Embassy in Islamabad killing eight people and injuring more than a dozen, local media sources reported.

The bomb was detonated at midday (0600 GMT). The embassy building was damaged and numerous vehicles parked near the blast scene were destroyed. The blast left a large crater behind it.

"I of course condemn this attack. It is terrible that terrorists commit such acts," Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller told Danish TV.

The attack wasn’t claimed by anyone so far and investigators still don’t have any idea who carried it out. The main militant group operating in Pakistan has recently declared ceasefire.
The Taliban chief in Pakistan, Baitullah Mehsud, is in peace talks with the country’s authorities to end the conflict in the state’s north-west region.

According to police reports, Pakistani security guards are among the dead.
Although the blast occurred in an upscale district of Islamabad, where many diplomats and foreigners live, no foreigners are believed to be among the victims.

Police reached the site of the explosion as soon as possible and sealed off the area so emergency crews could intervene and investigators could do their job.

The incident might be related with a cartoon depicting Prophet Muhammad with a turban resembling a bomb that was published in 2005 in a Danish newspaper. The drawing caused violence and tension around the world at that time but it seems that someone has not forgotten.
