Mr. Rod Blagojevich, who has been recently impeached from the position of Illinois Governor, continues to underline that he is innocent. Despite the fact that he is facing a criminal trial and could be sent to jail, Mr. Blagojevich vowed to prove that he is innocent.
During an interview with CNN’s Larry King, Mr. Blagojevich explained why he attended the Senate trial although he said he wouldn’t.
“I did (decide), at the very end, to make a closing argument because a lot of people… rightfully asked,” he told Larry King. “I was walking into something much like Daniel in the lion's den,” he added.
The former governor said that he was impeached although the Senate did not prove a single act of wrongdoing against him. He said that there was “an agreement” between the legislative leaders to take a caucus position. Blagojevich complained that he, a governor elected twice by the people, was not allowed even to bring witnesses to his defense.
When asked if he wanted to sell Obama’s Senate seat or not, Mr. Blagojevich said that, when the whole story will come to light, people will actually see that the story was in fact very “natural” to politics.
“I'm going to rebuild my life… I'm going to clear my name,” Blagojevich said.
Blagojevich was arrested December 2008 for trying to sell the Senate seat left vacant by President Barack Obama to the highest bidder or “parachute” himself in that position, as he said according to an FBI affidavit.
"[If] they're not going to offer me anything of value I might as well take it," Blagojevich allegedly said in a phone discussion with his deputy governor.
