The biggest online sellers for this Friday were the
electronic products. The day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, is usually
awaited by manufacturers and retailers all across the country with great
enthusiasm as it brings out massive crowds looking and shopping for holiday
gifts. Just a few days after comes Cyber Monday, the day when consumers get
back to work and use the Internet to carry on with their shopping.
The figures recorded during these two days provide retailers
with a glimpse of what the entire month will be like and help them prepare
their offer and stocks.
"Results from Black Friday show that shoppers continue
to turn to the Web for their holiday shopping needs, especially for consumer
electronics," explained Jim Griffith, eBay Marketplace Expert, in a
statement. eBay’s most searched-for product was Nintendo's Wii console and more
than 3,170 of them were sold on the Web site.
The worldwide economic crisis is expected to lead to smaller
overall figures for this month, in comparison to last year’s. Still, people
appear to be extremely interested in all sorts of electronics such as Apple’s
iPod, which was the top seller on Friday for Amazon, Cannon’s PowerShot camera
and Nintendo’s Wii Fit. Another aspect pointing out that the crisis might not ruin
the gift and shopping traditions is related to PayPal’s statement, which
recorded 34 percent more transactions than in 2007 and also registered a 26
percent increase in online payment volume for Black Friday. PayPal is an
extremely popular payment service owned by eBay.
