Research in Motion’s shares
jumped more than 11 percent after the Canadian company announced on Thursday
its third fiscal quarter profit. BlackBerry’s manufacturer reported that its
third fiscal quarter more than doubled compared to one year earlier.
So, for the quarter ended
December 1, the company earned 65 cents a share, or $370.5 million, compared to
31 cents a share, or $175.2 million, in the same quarter in 2006. Thus, the
company’s third quarter revenue rose to no less than $1.67 billion, from only
$835.1 million in 2006.
Interestingly enough, Thomson
Financial’s analysts estimated quite precisely Research in Motion’s achievement
for this period; they expected earnings of 62 cents a share and total revenue
of $1.65 billion.
The Canadian manufacturer was so
successful because of a strong demand for its BlackBerry smart mobile phones;
the company shipped more than 3.9 million handsets and added about 1.65 million
new BlackBerry subscriber accounts during this period.
So, with such financial
achievements, Research in Motion’s future plans are optimistic. The company
expects earnings of 66 cents to 70 cents per share in its fourth fiscal quarter
and total revenue of $1.8 billion to $1.87 billion.
