The footage of “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” was revealed Wednesday by DreamWorks Animation. The event turned out to be sad and at the same time sweet due to the fact that much of the footage highlighted a lion that was voiced by the late comedian Bernie Mac.
In the upcoming "Madagascar" sequel, Bernie Mac voices Zuba, the father of Alex (voice by Ben Stiller) a lion who loves New York City.
In an interview with The Associated Press, DreamWorks Animation SKG head, Jeffrey Katzenberg, said the well-known comedian and actor who deceased recently brought “so much heart and soul" during the production of the sequel of the 2005 animated comedy about zoo animals lost in the wild.
"It's just so hard, because we're still living with it every day, we're working with his creative contribution," Katzenberg told AP during the Wednesday interview.
"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," will be released in cinemas on November 7. The other characters in the movie are voiced by Chris Rock (Marty the restless zebra), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Gloria the hippo), Sacha Baron Cohen (the ring-tailed lemur) and David Schwimmer (Melman the hypochondriac giraffe).
Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am worked together with Hans Zimmer for the movie’s music.
Bernie Mac passed away Saturday in a Chicago area hospital due to pneumonia complications. DreamWorks animators were still in the process of finalizing some of the comedian’s scenes in the animated movie when he died at the age of 50, said Katzenberg.
