Comedian Bill Murray’s “quiet return to public life” was a
special one: he parachuted himself from the Army C-31A transport plane 13,500
feet in the air alongside members of the Army Golden Knights Parachute Team. Murray’s jump was part of the opening of Chicago’s 50th annual Air & Water Show.
The actor described the jump revealing the exuberant part of
his life as a funny experience, saying it was “quite a kick.” The
Oscar-nominated comedian shook hands with the members of the parachute team who
helped guide him to the ground, saying, “That was really fun. That was really
fun. Thank you.”
“It was 120 miles an hour and I was laughing hysterically as
I was falling but just before it I was tearing up a little bit thinking, Oh not
another stupid mistake,” Murray
said after the jump in an interview on WBBM-AM. “But it was fun. It was
quite a kick.”
This year’s edition marks the 50th anniversary of the
popular festival. The festivity included the traditional aerial acrobatics
performed by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
Bill Murray received a 2003 Oscar nomination for his role in
“Lost in Translation.” His film credits include “The Lost City,” “The Life
Aquatic with Steve Zissou,” “Broken Flowers”, “The Darjeeling Limited” and the
“Royal Tenenbaums.”
