Bill Gates is just one week away from his official
retirement announced for the 1st of July. He explained on numerous occasions
that the time will come when he will step down from his full-time job position
at Microsoft and focus his efforts on his $37 billion The Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation.
His position of chief research and strategy officer will be
filled by Craig Mundie and the new chief executive officer will be Steve
Ballmer, Mr. Gates’ former Harvard classmate and right-hand man for many decades.
Mr. Ballmer stated that Gates’ contribution is irreplaceable and also that is
very unlikely to have someone again in the company with his capacity and drive.
The plan to get more involved in the charity organization
has become clearer over the last decade, as Mr. Gates is a true believer in the
potential of an improved global system. He is already very involved in problems
concerning developing countries and firmly believes that the progress of
research and technology in chemistry, agriculture, electronics and other areas
could put an end to most of the world’s problems such as diseases and famine.
He explained that the work with the foundation will become
without a doubt the top priority but he will also get involved in the research
for cheap environmentally friendly energy and also the compounds needed for
better agriculture sessions, such as better fertilizer and much more reliable
seeds.
His wife expressed her full support for Mr. Gates’ upcoming
challenges, saying that the new set of activities, lacking any sort of
competition feel, except maybe the one with himself, will surely open up new
dimensions in her husband’s personality.
