Three well-known tech and venture capital writers, Todd
Bishop, Eric Engleman and John Cook, recently posted an article on their tech
blog TechFlash about Bill Gates’ new company called BGC3.
There aren’t many details about the company, as for now, it
doesn’t have a Web site. The three reporters noted "whatever the ultimate
role of the company, the circumstances surrounding its creation provide a
behind-the-scenes glimpse into the new era of Gates' life." The company
has a ‘think-tank’ federal trademark and it presents
broad terms that include "scientific and technological services,"
"industrial analysis and research," and "design and development
of computer hardware and software."
The company’s application for the BGC3 name trademark and C3
logo was registered on September 29. There are many rumors about Gates’ plans with
this new company, some saying that it could be related to carbon products (C3 is
a chemical symbol for tricarbon, which is found in space), other saying that it
will focus on DNA mapping, Web applications or Microsoft’s new headquarters. For
now nothing is certain and people should not get excited about any of the above
mentioned possibilities.
The company’s activity will surely be detailed through an
official announcement over the next few months so we’ll just have to wait and
see what Bill is up to these days.
Everyone knew it was just a matter of time before Bill Gates
decided on returning to the business scene, even though he announced that his
focus from now on will be on his philanthropy activities.
