Former United States President Bill Clinton will soon make public a list of approximately 200,000 donors to his foundation. The measure comes after Mr. Clinton reached a deal with the nation’s President Elect, Barack Obama, in order to clear the way for his wife and former First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will most likely become secretary of state.
The publishing of Bill Clinton’s list of donors was a decision the former president took in order to avoid an apparent conflict of interest with Hillary Clinton’s duties as the U.S. secretary of state.
Barack Obama, who will take office on January 20, will most likely announce Hillary Clinton as her secretary of state on Monday. According to a report from The New York Times, the publishing of the list of donors was just on of the nine condition of the deal between Bill Clinton and Obama. The conditions go beyond the requirement of the law.
Bill Clinton reportedly turned over the list, which contains 208,000 individuals and organizations that have donated money since 1997, and will make them public by the end of the year, The New York Times reported. The future donors will also be made public as long as Hillary Rodham Clinton is in the cabinet.
Bill Clinton’s personal speeches and business activities will also be submitted to be reviewed by State Department ethics officials.
