During Wednesday night’s episode of “American Idol,” the group of 107 contestants that had managed to remain on the show on Tuesday was broken into pieces by the judges, in what host Ryan Seacrest described as the triumphs and the tragedies of Group Round.
The night before their performance, at about 4 a.m., Katrina Darrell, also known as Bikini Girl, left the group because, as she told judge Simon Cowell, she suffered from scoliosis and her back was giving out, thus leaving fellow team members Rose Flack and Jasmine Murray high and dry.
The all but impressive and lively rendition of Duffy’s „Mercy,” which the aforementioned two contestants presented to the judges cost Flack, 17, her spot on the television show, mainly because she forgot the lyrics to the song.
Other singers who were cast out were David Osmond, Emily Wynne-Hughes, Nancy Wilson and Ryan Pinkston.
The contestants who will be staying on for another week include Norman Gentle, Danny Gokey, Jamar Rogers, Taylor Vaifanua and Kristin McNamara.
Nevertheless, Wednesday’s episode was not all forgotten lyrics and hopes for some, for that matter, since the a-cappella quartet that included Danny Gokey, 28, Jamar Rogers, 26, and Taylor Vaifanua, 16, managed to save the day and impressed the judges with their performance.
As for the worst group on the show, it went under the Team Compromise name and comprised Nancy Wilson, 28, Kristin McNamara, 22, and Nathaniel Marshall, 18.
