Biggie’s Neighborhood Has Changed

While Jamal Woolard, Angela Bassett, Antonique Smith and Derek Luke shoot the scenes for the autobiographical movie “Notorious,” many of the buildings and places in Biggie’s old neighborhood have changed. In the movie, Jamal Woolard interprets a vulnerable and overgrown adolescent, while Smith plays a devoutly loyal wife and Lucas seems to be so glad of his new young discovery.

Biggie Smalls used to live in a neighborhood in Brooklyn but many things have changed around there since the famous rapper died. A building which was once a coin laundry is now the office of a plastic surgeon, while at only a block far from there is a wine bar which sells cheeses and meats.

This neighborhood was exactly the place where Notorious lived all his short life. He used to sell drugs on those streets and that places inspired him for the revolutionary music he had interpreted.

“Notorious” was released on January 16, 2009 and the biopic of the movie was produced by Puff Diddy and Voletta Wallace with Faith Evans' help. Voletta Wallace, Biggie Smalls’ mother, stated that she had moved in the neighborhood in 1969 and left it after her son got killed at the age of only 24, in 1997.

Notorious released his debut album in 1994 and had created an influential wave of hip hop music in a New York dominated by West Coast artists. He soon founded the Junior M.A.F.I.A. group and started to become more and more involved in the East Coast-West Coast hip hop feud.

On March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace was shot four times in the chest in Los Angeles. Even if his entourage took him to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the hip hop singer was pronounced dead. 15 days later, his last album “Life after Death” was released and reached to be No. 1 hit in the United States album charts.
