The two men responsible for the Bigfoot hoax, Matthew
Whitton and Rick Dyer, tried to explain yesterday that it was all a joke and
they never thought that alleged discovery would become as big as it did.
According to their story, their Bigfoot was nothing more
than a rubber costume filled with opossum roadkill and several other body parts
taken from a slaughterhouse.
"All this was a big joke. It got into something way
bigger than it was supposed to be," said Mr. Whitton. Before the whole
story began, he worked as a police officer but due to the outcome of the whole
story, Mr. Jeff Turner, the chief of the Clayton County Police Department,
decided to terminate his activity on the force.
Visibly unpleased with the decision, Whitton expressed his
point of view, saying that "I don't believe it does affect my credibility
at all because this is Bigfoot. It would be one thing if I came out and said
that I had something else that is tangible or real, but right now, as far as
I'm concerned, there is no real Bigfoot."
Things might have cooled off quicker for the two if it
wasn’t for the owner of the Searching for Bigfoot company, Mr. Tom Biscardi. He
claims that last week, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer took the $50,000 he
offered as an advance for the exclusive story of their ‘discovery.’ Also there
are several rumors about his intent to press charges against the two.
Their story on ‘how harmful can a joke be?’ might help with
the general public, but will it hold in court and will it get Whitton his job
back?
