Grammy-winning singer Beyonce Knowles signed on to star in a new musical drama “Cadillac Records,” as legendary soul singer Etta James.
According to reports, Beyonce, who got a Golden Globe nomination for her role in “Dreamgirls,” will step in James’ shoes as well as produce the 1950s period movie about the founder of Chicago’s Chess Records and his lineup of stars.
Knowles, who will join Adrien Brody, who is due to play the label’s founder Leonard Chess, Jeffrey Wright and Columbus Short in the movie, is also set to record four songs for the flick’s soundtrack.
She will reportedly donate a portion of her fees to the Survivor Foundation, a charity which helps recovering drug addicts.
James, bestowed with a lifetime achievement award at the 2002 Grammys and ranked number 62 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest female artists of all time, scored a major UK hit in 1995 with “I Just Want to Make Love to You,” re-released after it was featured in a Diet Coke advertisement.
