Beyonce saw her freshly released third album, the two-CD set
“I Am … Sasha Fierce,” reach the top spot of The Billboard 200, thus following the
debut triumphs of the artist’s previous solo works, 2003’s “Dangerously in Love”
(which sold 317,000 copies to open at No. 1) and 2006’s “B’Day” (which debuted
on the first spot with 541,000 units).
The Music World/Columbia album sold an impressive 482,000
copies in the United States
during the week ended November 23, according to figures released by Nielsen
SoundScan.
Last week registered seven top 20 debuts on the album chart,
whose second position was claimed by Canadian rock band Nickelback and their
“Dark Horse,” which sold 326,000 units.
“American Idol’s” most recent winner, 25-year-old David Cook
saw his self-titled new album debut at No. 3 with 280,000 copies, while last
week’s No. 1, Taylor Swift’s “Fearless,” dropped to the fourth position with
217,000 copies.
Il Divo’s “The Promise” came in fifth with 162,000 units,
followed by the soundtrack to teenage hit “Twilight,” which sold 125,000
copies, and the “Now 29” compilation with 115,000 copies.
The “High School Musical 3” soundtrack was No. 8 with
86,000, while Enya’s “And Winter Came” slipped one position to No. 9 with
83,000 copies.
AC/DC’s “Black Ice” closed last week’s top 10 with 73,000
units and raised its total to 1.39 million. The album has been available for
five weeks exclusively via Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.
Dido’s “Safe Trip Home” opened at No. 13, with 51,000 and
Zac Brown Band’s “The Foundation” claimed the 17th spot with 44,000
units.
