Glamorous musical couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z did marry on
April 4, as was intensely speculated in the media, and the confirmation, genuine
and indisputable, comes in the form of a marriage license.
They shamelessly played with us and refused to confirm mounting
speculation that they had become Mr and Mrs but alas, the “Did they, didn’t
they?” riddle has been answered.
The couple filed their signed wedding license Friday in Scarsdale, N.Y.,
People magazine reports exclusively on its website.
Scarsdale Town Clerk Donna Conkling tells People that the
license was received on Friday, April 18, and lists the wedding date as April 4.
It was only three days before that the two had applied for a license marriage
which, again, People reported exclusively at the time.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) reportedly
married during a very intimate ceremony in New York City, then celebrated with family
and friends in a lavish party.
Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles, her father/manager Mathew and
her sister Solange were joined by the bride’s Destiny’s Child gal-pals Kelly
Rowland and Michelle Williams, and the couple’s friend Gwyneth Paltrow,
presumably joined by husband Chris Martin, who collaborated with Jay-Z on his
“Kingdom Come” album.
Neither of the supposed newlyweds would confirm a change of
marital status to reporters, and friends and family acted similarly suspicious.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z also conspicuously sheltered their hands from inquisitive
eyes, with the notable exception of a blinding bling moment some 5 days after
that much talked about Friday.
Although the couple’s license was filed more than five days
after the wedding, as required by law, Conkling told People that it’s unlikely
for a penalty to ensue. This would not be special celebrity treatment, the
clerk added, as newlyweds are spared the penalty frequently.
Beyoncé, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, have been together since 2002
and they have managed to keep refreshingly discreet about their relationship.
According to earlier reports, the two will not embark on a
honeymoon in the near future, as they are currently busy with professional projects.
Jay-Z is touring with Mary J. Blige on the “Heart of the City” tour until early
May, while Beyoncé is working on a new film, portraying famed blues singer Etta
James in the film “Cadillac Records.”
