Beyoncé Knowles is ready to expand her acting career and
what better counter balance to her real life-inspired roles of majestic African
American singers than a comic book superhero like Wonder Woman?
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times earlier this
week, the singer turned actress confessed that after the emotional roles of
2006’s “Dreamgirls” and the upcoming “Cadillac Records,” she feels ready for
something at the opposite end of the spectrum: a superhero film where she would
like to portray none other than Wonder Woman.
Calling it a “bold choice,” Beyoncé told the paper a black
Wonder Woman would be “a powerful thing.”
Beyoncé isn’t just wishing to take on the role of a
superhero, she has already met with representatives of DC Comics and Warner
Bros. to let them know that if they are in need of someone to portray a female
superhero, she is absolutely available. She told the Times she would love to do
some action moves while wearing Wonder Woman’s fantastic costume.
Yes, Beyoncé saw Lynda Carter’s costume from the 1970s
television show at the Costume Institute’s “Superhero” show at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art earlier this year and was very impressed with its former wearer’s
proportions.
As to the butt-kicking, she got a taste of fighting for the
camera in the Scott Shill thriller “Obsessed,” which she recently finished
filming for. One scene with Ali Larter required her to become physical and
Beyoncé said she enjoyed it tremendously.
She next stars in the biographical film “Cadillac Records,”
as Etta James, alongside Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess, Mos Def as Chuck Berry
and Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, among others. Film is slated for a Dec. 5
release.
