Famous comedian Bernie Mac, hospitalized in Chicago for
pneumonia, is “responding well to treatment” and is expected to be released in
the next few weeks, his spokeswoman announced on Thursday, as reported by
Reuters.
Apart from the fact that Bernie Mac, aged 50, remained
hospitalized, but was “in stable condition”, the statement released by his
publicist, Danica Smith, gave no further details about the actor.
Last week, Danica Smith said that the comedian’s pneumonia
was not related to his inflammatory lung disease, which
has been in remission since 2005, according to the Associated Press.
Bernie Mac was hospitalized with pneumonia on August 1. Soon
after, rumors of his death have circulated, but were totally rejected by his
publicist.
The two time Emmy Award-nominated actor is famous for
playing in productions such as the “Ocean’s Eleven” trilogy, “Guess Who” and
the “Charlie’s Angels” sequel “Full Throttle,” plus his U.S.
television sitcom “The Bernie Mac Show,” which ran on the Fox network from 2001
to 2006.
In the show, he becomes all of a sudden custodian over his
sister’s three children after she enters rehab. Moreover, “The Bernie Mac Show”
included many parodies of incidents in the actor’s real life. Nevertheless, the
show was not renewed after the 2006 season. The series earned Mac two Golden
Globe nominations besides the two Emmy Awards nominations.
