Ben Stiller’s Comedy Is Still Number One

“Tropic Thunder,” the DreamWorks film starring Ben Stiller earned its second consecutive first-place in the Box-office this week. Ben Stiller’s film, also starring Tom Cruise, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. earned a total of $65.7 million by now. This was also the fourth number 1 spot for Downey in as many months (he also starred in "Iron Man" and "The Dark Knight").

The Box-office top five for this weekend is the following: "Tropic Thunder" with $16.1 million, is still on the first place, followed by "The House Bunny” with $15.1 million earned, "Death Race" is on the third place with $12.3 million, "The Dark Knight" is on the fourth with $10.3 million, and on the fifth place we can find "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" with $5.7 million earned.

Therefore the battle between the first two positions was quite tight, the difference between them being of just $1 million. Moreover, Warner Bros.' franchise films: "The Dark Knight" and "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" matched expectations. "Death Race" on the other hand, a remake of a 1975 film about car races, starring Jason Statham, was bellow expectations.

As far as "The House Bunny” is concerned, the long term hopes aren’t too high anyway. The subject of the movie doesn’t cover such a wide range of interests. It stars Anna Faris as a Playboy Bunny thrown out of the mansion who becomes house mother in order to help her after their banishment from the Playboy mansion. The script was written by Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah Lutz who are also responsible for "Legally Blonde."
