Recently injured and arrested for DUI following a car accident, young "Indiana Jones" actor Shia LaBeouf admitted in an interview for Details magazine's upcoming issue that he doesn't know "how to have one drink."
Prior to his arrest this weekend, the "Transformers" star revealed he has a drinking problem and also opened up about his rituals with his father, whom Shia outed as a former drug dealer who used to smoke him out when he was just 10.
In the interview meant to discuss the actor's rise to fame, the actor said he and his father would "drink together and smoke together and it's just a bad deal."
As far as his habitual drinking is concerned, Shia explained that "It’s not something that is conducive to being a role model. … And I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have one drink."
However, acknowledging there is a problem is the first step in solving it, and Shia seemed to be aware that he needed to quit, saying that no "iconic actors have problems like that."
In addition to alcohol, Shia said staying away from alcohol isn't his only problem, as he recalled November's incident in Chicago when a late-night nicotine jones ended with a trespassing charge.
"It was two hotheads," he said, "one completely in the wrong, one who wasn’t enjoying his job that night, going at it about minuscule bullshit."
Just hours before the collision, the 22-year-old star was spotted drinking at West Hollywood's Troubadour club, Usmagazine.com reported.
"He was dancing around and acting really crazy," a source told the mag. "He kept doing shots of whiskey. He stayed until the band was done and then stumbled out of the club."
Shia Labeouf received a misdemeanor DUI charge following early Sunday morning's accident in Hollywood. His Ford truck rolled over when he was hit by another vehicle while making a left turn at a light.
Luckily, both Shia's passenger, his "Transformers" co-star Isabel Lucas, and the other vehicle's driver got away with only minor injuries while Shia hurt his left hand badly having to undergo "extensive surgery" to repair the damage. The actor will unable to return for work on "Transformers 2" in the upcoming month, but his mother said on Monday that her son "is doing really well."
"Shia is doing fine. He's in good spirits. He's resting," Shayna LaBeouf said during a hospital visit Monday.
While LaBeouf remained hospitalized, 23-year-old Lucas, who is dating "Entourage" star Adrian Grenier, was treated for minor cuts and bruises at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and released. She is said to be just "friends" with LaBeouf, according to a movie source quoted by the Daily News. Australian-born Lucas, who plays a supporting role in the movie, already returned to work on Monday.
Sources on the set told E!Online that Shia’s absence will not affect the film, as they have a variety of special effects-driven scenes to work on. The source went on saying that the actor's youth could work in his favor. "He’s 22, he could bounce back in no time."
