While most teenagers try to take the least amount of responsibility, John Tyler Hammons from Muskogee, Oklahoma, thought to be the exception by becoming one of the youngest mayors in the country.

The 19-year-old freshman at the University of Oklahoma participated in the mayoral race in Muskogee and also won. According to the Associated Press,  Muskogee County Election Board Secretary Bill Bull said that, after all the precincts reported, Hammons allegedly gathered 70 percent of the votes over former Mayor Hershel Ray McBride.

“The public placing their trust in me is the greatest, humbling and most awesome experience I've ever had in my life,” said Hammons. Apparently he wasn’t joking, which makes us wonder if, by any chance, he might be an alien.

According to a local source, Chris Reese, a friend from elementary school said that it’s just his ambition that got Hammons here.

“I knew he would end up here. Ambition — he just wants it that bad.”

The Mayor plans to transfer to a university closer to Muskogee as he is decided to continue his studies.

“Being elected does not change my desire to continue my education. We will schedule our time in an appropriate fashion so that I can be mayor and stay in school,” said Hammons according to The Associated Press.

Of course everyone is curious about his decision as he's already been contacted by representatives of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" about appearing on the late-night talk show.

Given the fact that being mayor to a city of 38,000 residents isn’t a piece of cake, let’s hope the teenage Mayor will be up for the challenge.
