Barrington Schools Closed because Bus Vandalism

All schools in Barrington School District 220 are officially closed for students and teachers Tuesday because “severe bus vandalism,” according to the district’s Website and an early-morning text message.

The first message, distributed through Honeywell Instant Alert automatic messaging system, was received at about 6:15 a.m., about the time buses start picking up high school students.

The  notice posted on the school district’s Web site said that the school was canceled for all teachers and students because cases of vandalism were reported early in the morning.

According to local authorities, the measure affects all schools from kindergarten through high school, including St. Anne’s Catholic School.

School district 220 bus drivers discovered that the buses’ tires were punctured early Tuesday and the buses were spray-painted, according to a Barrington police dispatcher.

Students and teachers are asked not to present themselves at school, while administrative, clerical and building staff should still come in, officials say.

No one at the district office was available to comments.

Parents and children can also find information at EmergencyClosing.com.

For information on Athletic and co-curricular events, those interested can contact the co-curricular hotline at 847-842-3293, the school district’s Web site said.
