Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and famous DJ Adam Goldstein were both very lucky to have survived the recent plane crash they were involved in. Despite the fact that they were hospitalized in critical condition, doctors said their condition stabilized and they will eventually recover from their burns, probably fully. However, the lucky musicians will have to go through a very tough period.
The recovery period will most likely be long and very painful, the doctors who are treating the musicians said. The two reportedly suffered second and third degree burns.
"It can take up to a year to heal," said Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, were the two musicians are hospitalized.
"We expect them to have a full recovery, that's all I can say."
However, the term “full recovery” isn’t quite accurate. Even after the severe burns are healed, the victims of third-degree burns are very sensitive to the sun on the burnt areas. In some areas, the hair will never grow again, and if some tight scars form around the joints the movement would be hindered.
Nevertheless, the fact that the two musicians are young (Goldstein - 35, Barker - 32) and that they are in a burn trauma specialty center will certainly help a lot.
Baker and Goldstein received many visits from their friend since they were hospitalized. Among the celebs that tried to lift the spirit of the two musicians there also were producer Jermaine Dupri, Mandy Moore (Goldstein’s former girlfriend) and Shanna Moakler (Barker's ex-wife).
The crash in which Barker and Goldstein burned took the lives of four people who were unlucky enough to be on that plane on that particular day. The death list included the Learjet 60’s two pilots, a security guard and Barker's assistant. They were killed instantly when the plane crashed. The apparent cause of the crash was a blowout tire.
