Who does not remember Barbie, the doll which became the quintessential American icon, representing women’s contact with style and fashion? The perfect figured blond haired Barbie turns 50 this year and managed to create quite an impression at New York's semi-annual Fashion week. The classic doll made a sensation on the catwalk in designer outfits.
The show proved itself to be an eagerly awaited one and it is just a part of the year-long celebration for Barbie’s birthday. Actually Mattel, the world's largest toy maker, has decided to revive the doll’s glamour and make it fashionable again.
The show started featuring some video images of Barbie over the years as the first model presented a black and white bathing suit reminiscent of the first generation Barbie.
There were not less than 50 top names of the fashion world which bared the signature of the dresses the models were wearing. Among them there were Vera Wang, Badgley Mischka, Tommy Hilfilger and Calvin Klein playing with time as they presented past, present and future looks of the doll. The designers mostly used colors like black, red and pink together with long blond pony tails and futuristic hairstyles.
Mattel’s initiative to bring Barbie back to life is quite a complex process. This show was only the first step, followed by certain plans to open in March the brand’s first store in Shanghai. There will also be a Barbie exhibit in Paris, as foe Washington D.C., well, there is going to take place a four-day National Barbie Doll Collector's Convention in July.
