Famous singer and actress, Barbara Streisand, talked about her hard childhood on CBS’ “The Early Show” this morning, in addition to the Kennedy Center Honors from tonight. CBS will air the honors at 9 a.m. Streisand told Julie Chen, host of “The Early Show,” that her family never had a couch in the house and that they hadn’t even had a living room.

The actress added that the only spaces in her home were a dining room, a bedroom of her grandparents and another bedroom where she used to sleep with her mother and brother. Streisand revealed that she had never had a doll and instead, she used to play with a hot water bottle.

Tonight, CBS will air the 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors, an entertainment show during which great people who performed different forms of arts during their career, get to be honored with a life time award. Barbara Streisand was honored on December 7 at the Kennedy Center Honors.

The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts announced in September the people who would get to receive the Kennedy Center Honors for 2008. Actor Morgan Freeman, singer George Jones, actress and singer Barbra Streisand, choreographer Twyla Tharp, and musicians Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who were the ones who had been awarded for their life time performances.

Streisand started recording her first album since “Guilty Pleasures” on November 17 this year. Her previous album, which had been released in 2005, went Gold just a few weeks after its release. For this new album, Streisand will work with Diana Krall for the first time.
