Barack Obama – From Candidate To President

History was written yesterday in the United States, as the country’s 44th elected President is Barack Obama, the first African-American president. The result of the election is a crucial step in ridding America of all traces of racism and other forms of discrimination which still exist, sadly, in the United States.

In a nation founded and run for a significant amount of time by slave owners, and which was then overwhelmed with segregation, in a country where African-Americans had no right to vote when the current President was born, in a country where the KKK is still active and has quite a few members, in other words in the United States, Barack Obama is now President, winning against John McCain, the Caucasian Republican.

Over 240,000 Americans filled Chicago’s waterfront and were brought to tears by the result of the voting and by Obama’s acceptance speech. "If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer,” said America’s new President.

It had been assumed that John McCain was sure to win the election and that America was not ready for such a great change – but polls were reversed after the Republican candidate chose Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. The majority of Americans were mortified by the prospect of having a vice-president who can’t tell the difference between Nicolas Sarkozy and Canadian radio pranksters on the phone.

Whichever the reason for why McCain lost, it does seem that the people of the United States are finally ready for a significant change, which will most likely include the end of wars and a more stable economy, priorities of President Barack Obama.
