No volleyball tournament can stop her. No competitor can hold
her down. But ballroom dancing can actually get in her way.
Two-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty
May-Treanor was doing the Lindy Hop when she was forced to stop. The athlete
ruptured her Achilles tendon on Friday while rehearsing a jive with swaying
partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy and her “Dancing with the Stars” mission seems to
have been brought to a standstill.
Toward the end of Monday’s show, Misty May-Treanor walked
with difficulty on the stage to have a chat with host Tom Bergeron, who
courteously offered her a seat. While viewers were showed brief clips of the
volleyball player contorting in deep pain following the rehearsal injury, the
star explained that she could no longer take part in “Dancing with the Stars.”
“I am out,” she said, adding that she would still encourage and cheer on those
who remained in the competition, because the show had to go on even in her
absence.
Misty May-Treanor talked about her injury and how painful
the experience was, saying, “it felt like I got hit in the back of my leg with
a baseball bat.” Although May-Treanor admitted that at first she did not want
to give up, she eventually realized that she was unable to walk and was
immediately transported to a hospital.
The athlete may not have been hurt this badly in all of the
volleyball tournaments she took part in, but the ballroom dancing appears to
have brought her bad luck. “It can happen,” she said during Monday’s show,
while her dancing partner explained how upset he was with regard to the injury.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy stated that he was even more emotional than Misty
May-Treanor and that Vicodin was his only consolation throughout the time his
dancing partner was in hospital. “She was laughing in hospital and I was asking
for Vicodin,” he said.
Misty May-Treanor nevertheless said that the injury would
not affect her volleyball career by any means. Although the star admitted she
had planned to take some time off, she said that she was going to return on the
court healthier and more powerful than ever. Misty May-Treanor even informed
PEOPLE that she would be back to the ballroom if she were requested to.
As the athlete is said to undergo a surgery and a nine-month
rehabilitation, we sure wonder who will take her place on “Dancing with the
Stars.”
If we take into account other reality shows whose
contestants have been through similar situations, out lucky guess would be Kim
Kardashian, who was eliminated last week. Nothing is certain, however, although
the model told Ryan Seacrest that she would be available in case she was asked
to rejoin “Dancing with the Stars,” E! Online reported.
Even if Kim Kardashian was back on the popular ABC show, it
is unclear whether she would be Mark Ballas’ (her former partner) or Maksim
Chmerkovskiy’s dancing mate.
We just have to wait until next week so as to find out all
the details. Until then… rumors might as well pour.
