Police are still awaiting results of the toxicology tests
that could explain the death of Jason Rae, the husband of Grammy-nominated
British singer Corinne Bailey Rae.
The musician, aged 31, was found dead in a Leeds apartment
Saturday around 3:15 p.m., West Yorkshire Police reported. The police suspect a drug overdose to be the cause of his death.
According to the Associated Press, West Yorkshire Police
said that the officers in charge with investigating the death had arrested a
32-year-old man suspected of supplying drugs.
Jason was playing the saxophone in the Haggis Horns band, described
by its members as “an eight-piece live funk extravaganza,” on its MySpace page.
The Haggis Horns have performed with Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy
Winehouse and Mark Ronson.
The band’s fans expressed their condolences for Corinne
Bailey Rae both on the social networking site Facebook and the band’s MySpace
page.
On the Haggis Horns’ MySpace page, a friend expressed her
admiration for Jason Rae: “I just heard the news today. Deepest sympathy - I'm
so sorry. Jason was one of the cleverest, funniest and talented people I've
ever known.”
A saxophone player wrote about his fellow musician Jason:
“It is a sad and awful thing to lose such a 1st class top musician. Especially
when it’s [a loss] as unexpected and premature as Jason's. My love, condolences
and sympathy goes out to all you guys, Corrine and the Rae family. May you rest
in peace Jason.”
Corinne Bailey Rae has not commented on her husband’s death,
but her record label declared on Sunday, according to BBC: “EMI Records would
like to offer its sincere condolences to Corinne Bailey Rae and the Rae family
at this tragic time.We ask that the media respects Corinne's privacy and that
of her entire family.”
The couple married in 2001, after meeting in Leeds jazz
club.
